I like cities that have a lot going on, and that have milder climates.

1. Austin, TX - Laid back for it's size. Less expensive than a lot of places. Lots of non-conformists, left over hippies and maybe 40 thousand UT students. 1.5 million in the metro area. Very pretty setting. On the edge of the Texas Hill Country - gorgeous. Lake Travis is on the west side of town. Town Lake & Barton Springs are downtown.. A few hours from San Antoino, and maybe 2 .5 hours from Houston. An hour to just over an hour to San Marcos and New Braunfels. Friendly people. For gay people, there's no gay ghetto. Which is a positive thing, because in this case, it means that gay people are more accepted than a lot of other cities, so there's less of a need to have a separate enclave for gay people to feel comfortable

2. Washington, DC - Excellent cultural environment. Just far enough south so that you avoid the nasty, freezing cold winters you get further north. Good public transportation. Amazingly for it's size, most people are very helpful, and polite, due to its Southern heritage. Especially good place if you're Black or gay, or both. But expensive.

3. Atlanta - Lovely, mild winters. Every thing that you'd want to do is right here. Pretty green hilly terrain in a lot of the city. Really good environment for African-Americans especially. Lots of middle class and affluent Black people.

4. Los Angeles/Orange County. It's expensive, and some times the air quality is not the best. But the weather is about as close to perfect as you're going to find, in my opinion. Lots of job opportunites. Has just about anything you'd find in New York without the cold, the rude people, and incredibly expensive closet sized apartments. LA is expensive, but at least you don't have to live in a crappy prison cell like apartment.

5. San Francisco. What more is there to say?
Plus, excellent public transportation. If you're the type that gets fed up with the relentless sunshine in LA, this is the place to be. Also outrageously expensive housing.

Personally, I think that Seattle is the best city. It is educated, has a wonderful view from anywhere in the city, has a mild climate, and you can find a bit of everything.

Michigan, USA. I really enjoy the Great Lakes and the four seasons. The cost of living is not bad if you have a college degree.
