I know this may seem an odd question to ask, but I have recently moved house, and haven't been able to find a new doctor yet. If anyone could please help me out I'd be soo grateful.

I had a medical abortion in august. There was a slight complication, having expelled the foetus, I couldn't push out the placenta, and was taken into surgery for a scrape. Anyway, after that things seemed to get back to normal. I had my first period 6 weeks after, which was normal. But the next period was odd- it was quite light and it lasted for 6-7 days (normally its 3-4). My periods just come again after only 3 weeks or so, and I'm bleeding a lot more heavily than usual.
I never have problems like this. I was on the pill before I got pregnant. And even before I was on the pill, I never even got painful periods. My periods have always been quite short, and not too heavy, and they've always lasted for 4 days.
Please tell me whether this is normal. I am at a loss- I don't know what to do.

Some background info........I'm not n excrutiating pain or anything. And I feel scared about going back on the pill, cos I was on it when I got pregnant in the first place.
The result of my fear is that I find myself feeling kind of guilty about things, and I can't have sex properly- the slightest worry about it has me running to the chemist for a pregnanct testing kit. Is it posible that I got pregnant again and am having a miscarriage?

Your body is NO longer the same. It went through a lot of changes when it Was pregnant. The sudden miscarriage is still in certain parts of the body, and the brain is trying to heal them. For every month you were pregnant, it takes that many x 3 for the body to readjust and recover. Your periods are normal now, you will Never be the same in that department again. And the next time you take a pregnancy to term, your periods will change again, etc, etc. I strongly suggest that you return to using the "pill" again, until your regulated. At least the pain will stop. For now, keep your feet up - no heavy lifting, no hot baths, and try Midol or Tylenol (the one for pain).. Hope this helps you out my wee one, I was there once.

Women who underwent the scrape, or what doctors call as D&C (short for dillatation and curretage) usually has what they call as endometrial hyperplasia, or thickened lining of the uterus. These lining of the uterus is what is responsible for the women's menses. Every month, they thicken, in preparation of conception and implantation of the fetus. However, at the end of the period, the uterus senses that no fetus is implanted, and these lining will shed off, and it's what we call as menses.

I believe you have endometrial hyperplasia, or your uterus lining grew a little bit too thick. Your body is still adjusting from the pregnancy to the non-pregnancy state, so maybe the lining may have been too thick, thinking you'll have a baby.

Pills regulate your menses so that you thicken your endometrial lining only to a certain degree, and then you shed it off by stopping or drinking another pill (depends on what brand you use).

The best decision is to go see a doctor. If you're bleeding too much, that might indicate that there's something wrong. One complication would be that you'll loose too much blood and you need to be transfused with it.

Hope that helps you somewhat. I'm a doctor, by the way.

After i had a baby it looked like a murder in my house when i next had my period. nothing stopped me bleeding everywhere, not tamons and towels at the same time changed every 20-30 minutes it just poured for about 1 week! i was actually quite scared about it, i think i lost more blood in that week than i did in my c-section!
i think its just your body getting rid of everything. I had a c-section so they scraped me out too.
My doctor said it was normal though.
If the bleeding is coupled with pain i would see the doc though, just to make sure.

Your hormones will be all over the place at the moment so it's not unusual for periods to be heavier for a while after a termination, especially as it was a hormone induced one. You really need to register with a GP as soon as you can though, just go to the nearest one and ask them to register you there - the NHS Direct website below will have a list of all services in your area. Good luck :)

You really must get checked out by a doctor! Once you have been checked then, if the problem still persists, you could try Shiatsu or acupuncture. Both of them are very helpful in regularising menstrual problems.
But see a doctor first. Ring NHS direct, they can probably help.
Lots of luck

it might be that your body is just adjusting, settling back down after everything but it could be something else caused by the procedure, it would probobly be best just to go and get the doctors to check it out just incase
