The so called fact are that almost all cultures were suppose to have created the ultimated Sword but that was all based on the material that they had to work with. Also based in truth and facts the ultimate sword was suppose to have been a creation of the iron age and many good swords were created in that time period. And when mankind literally stumbled on to how to created steel then once again out comes the ultimate sword. So in truth across time and history the ultimate sword was created many times over and over again.. I do hope that this does answers your question fully.

That would depend on how you define 'ultimate'? The 'ultimate' sword, in theory, would be the 'idea' of the first sword, since every sword that comes after is but an imitation and repetition of that original design. If we are discussing abilities, again, that would depend on what you think an 'ultimate' sword needs. Beyond it can cut anything (even it's own scabbard), is indestructible, and never loses an edge, the requirements can be quite daunting. Must it work only for the just, the unjust, must it have paranormal qualities, must it signify something (nobility, heritage, dumb luck), how is it passed down, is it passed down? Most likely, the ultimate sword exists as needed, when needed, in the material it is needed in. The ultimate sword is made from the essence of the universe, and reverts back to essence once it's mission is completed. Few wield it 'publicly' (especially in this day and age) but more than a few wield it when necessary (dreams are more than just a mind's playground). It belongs to no one, only itself.

You mean like Excalibur? the legendary sword that could not loose in a just battle?...it's a legend, based on prehistoric practices of throwing sacrifices into a lake, usually presided over by priestess known as "lady of the lake" there are plenty of swords that were found in bogs and lakes but they are rusted bits with no magical properties

The closest I have seen as far as strength and edge retention are produced by a company called Cold Steel (see below for link to request catalogue and demo video). As far as blades with more...intangible...qualities I am unaware of any in existance, although I do know of several people that have tried to produce them. It does seem that the efforts to produce such a blade are lacking in sufficient knowledge to achieve the desired results. It is, however, an ongoing project in certain circles....
