"Upgrading and Repairing PCs: Scott Mueller
It is very very detailed and it has got an Excellent Troubleshooting session which is very much helpful.
The new edtions incorporates latest technologies; so always get the latest edition. It think now 18th edition has been released.
Its having almost 1500 pages of well described HW technologies.

"The Complete PC Upgrade and Maintenance Guide" by Mark Minasi. Its the best book. I have reasd teh entire book page by page. Its easy to comprehend if you are beginner. Its cool for intermediate and advance users too. You wont need to join any institutes or refer to any other book after you have read this book. In addition, if you start subscribing the Digit magazine or buy it every month, you will remain updated with all hardware related issues. Its the best combination you can ask for.
