A good inquiry into the idea of a good society. Marred by Plato's own prejudices. Plato wanted a society where desires were properly ordained. That is the most interesting idea in the Republic. The weakness of contemporary societies is precisely that desire is unbridled and the people are corrupt. Confucius would have agreed. In America today, the stomach is at the position of ruler.

A totalitarian ideal that fails to appreciate the depth of humanity and the need for liberty. For example its banning of fiction and its insistence on a form of education that can only be called brainwashing.
