What makes a song catchy? I'm not after answers like, 'because of the hook or the riff', I mean why is that hook or riff catchy in the first place. Is there a magical forumla that only musicians know about?

If it is 'pleasant' and 'repetitive' then it will 'catch' on to you, therefore being 'catchy'.... :-) Songs are bait. We are fish. If we are caught by the bait, then we'll 'bite', meaning we'll purchase the bait and hopefully like that enough to get the whole can-of-worms (the whole cd)... ;-)
