I asked them (Direct TV) before and they said NO. That it was just there for future upgrades or something stupid like that. I don't know if it's exactly the truth or not. It seems to me that it would be possible. I have always wanted to try it myself, but never got around to it. BTW my dvd player has a usb port on it and I have put a flash drive in it that I had recorded music on and it played on my TV. Maybe you can try something like that on tour direct tv reciever. Now that you brought it up, I think I'm going to go and try that myself. I have a flash drive with 100's of photos on it, maybe it will let me view or record them into my reciever. Who knows? Good Luck! :)

DirecTV receivers with a serial or USB port can do nothing more than software upgrandes (if at all, because software upgrandes normally are sent over-the-air) and data exchange (like changing the channels using a computer - I have seen at least one software doing that). But you definitely can't watch TV on your computer using that USB port.

If you want to watch DirecTV on your computer (I do have this setup at home) you should shop for a TV capture card, like Hauppauge's. Then, plug a S-Video cable from the receiver to the capture card and use the software included with the capture card to watch and record TV - you can even pause live TV and so.

you will in no way decide to connect 2 powered materials mutually. that's the way you're making a short circuit. You "would" be waiting to get a USB cable that works for shifting, and that "would" artwork. in case you have an AppleTV, you are able to throw each and every thing in iTunes, and that would desire to artwork. you additionally can do comparable issues with WD media participant stay. Your appropriate guess, could be to get a NAS (community related storage) and throw each and every thing in there. - 17R3W

Some of those PVRs are basically PCs inside. You could try to boot to a USB key. See the link below to make one.

I really doubt you could get a video stream out of it.
