Why are g strings called g strings? They don't look like a g.... and they don't hit the spot!!?

They were originally named because the string portion was the approximate thickness of the G string on a guitar. In the early days they were only worn by strippers and burlesque performers, who performed to live music. Supposedly, it was a guitar player in a burlesque house who first came up with the name g-string.

They're great...the next best thing to being completely naked!
