i own a repair shop and it sounds like it might have a bad universal joint in it this will case the exact same vibration your talking about, and sometimes you wont even know their bad unless you check them real good but that's about all that will cause one to do it the w you described it on this one,you might want to have it checked ,if that's it,it may get bad enough to fall out of it,and this can do some damage to the truck,,good luck i hope this help,s.

I'd have to go with either the transmission or gearbox problems. The 45 mph vibration issue sounds like a gearbox problem you should be in 4th gear by then, maybe the drums in that gear are loose.

If you're going uphill the engine needs to supply more torque to the wheels to pull you up that hill, if you can hear something, it would most likely be the tranmission, perhaps a bearing is loose. Either way, a 1988 truck is getting on a bit, take it in for a good service somewhere and see what a mechanic thinks, which by the way, I'm not, I just drive 'em. :)

Your truck probably has a steering dampener on it. It looks like a shock absorber that is attached to your steering linkage. When these go bad it can produce a violent shaking. To check it. If you have one... Just unbolt one side of it. If it moves in and out easily then it;s bad. It should have alot of resistance like a regular shock.. When your going up hill under exelleration the front end becomes lighter And haveing some of the weight off the front wheels mkes it act up. But what kind of vibration. Is it a shaking. Does the vibration tickle your feet. If so then it's the u joints

DodgeMan is right about the u joint, but the 45 mph vibration is different. Typically, tire balance will be felt the most at about 45 mph. As you accelerate, it will fade, but can be felt again at 65 mph. Have your tires balanced. And check those u joints.

And don't listen to that "old" stuff. I drive a 1985 Toyota pickup with 185,000 miles on it. I plan on driving it until I'm 50, another 13 years.

There are several reasons for vehicular vibration - bad motor mounts, bad universal joints on the drive shaft, bent drive shaft, the motor's skipping because of a broken ceramic on a spark plug, etc - in other words you need an evaluation by a good mechanic, not guess work from a yahooer.

The 225 slant six, aka "Tower of potential" became right into a large engine yet as you have got here across isn't undemanding to locate. As somebody pronounced, purchase a 318 with transmission and use it. they're undemanding to locate, undemanding to paintings on, low-fee in case you don't recover from excited with differences, and could in effective condition conveniently. in case you like slightly extra desirable than inventory potential, an aluminum intake and small 4-barrel and headers will do wonders for a 318.

At first, it sounds like a misfire to me, but there a some other good explanations here. I think the person that said to take it to a technician as opposed to listening to a bunch of "Yahoo'ers" said it best.
Good luck!

It means that your car is old as hell. It is normal to have a little shimmy and shake on a car that is nearly 20 years old. I had a 92 blazer that did the same thing. Try a tune up, and a tire alignment.

I am willing to bet that you may have bad motor mounts in your engine compartment.
