Why is it we as a society will train people to drive a car, but we do not train people to become better or more patient loving parents? Why is it that we as society are content to let our pride stand in the way of bettering ourselves for our families, when in reality many people could benifit from being taught even the most basic techniques of parenting(above and beyond changing a diaper)?

I find it interesting that most of you answer in regard to death and killing. I was wondering why more parents don't prepare themselves with parenting classes that deal with how to interact with children, and how to deal with being a new mother, and how to be a more calm patient person if you are to embark on the wonderful journey of raising a family.

In response to a car being a deadly force... so can a parent who suppreses their children and their needs, desires and such... That's what abuse does. It kills an individual and can cause such mental harm that a person can become as damaged a car that's been in an accident. The difference is that you can physically see when a cars' been in an accident. A person can hide, and usually does hide, that kind of damage.

Good question. I think it would be wise. There are probably more unfit parents out there than fit parents. If it were like that on the roads, we would have MADD, the law, the everybody raising hell about it. Ever notice how people who are crappy parents keep reproducing?

Absolutely the finest question of the day. I feel that as children grow, it is an assumption that all that goes on in the home is wholesome. As a person drives, they become directly involved with everyone on the road. Patience comes with wisdom. Wisdom is as such..patience is a virtue...whereas impatience is a vice. Pride is a terrible thing. Patient parents are wonderful, but sometimes kids should pay attention to the action causing the impatience.Everyone must work together, stop fighting, and LISTEN TO ONE ANOTHER, WITH COMPASSION.

There are free parenting classes available in almost every large community. People just choose not to go. I don't believe that parenting classes should be mandatory because everybody has different standards and beliefs, and that's their constitutional right. Have you ever seen that show "Wife Swap"? I'm always amazed at the way people raise their families. Some people are really strict, some let their kids do what they want, some have strong religious beliefs, some have none. The bottom line is, even if we don't like the way people raise their kids, they have the right to raise them as they see fit.

I find it extremely ironic. Every Children's Protective Services worker I have ever known thinks that people should need a license before having children and that license would not be easy to obtain. Parenting is, in my opinion, the most critical job there is, the one having the greatest impact on what our world will become.

Ever see a child drive through a brick wall and kill themselves. Well children don't come with instructions, cars do and a car is a deadly weapon. Children need love, hugs, food and tlc...cars need one stupid person behind the wheel to change someone's life forever.

Drivers Licenses are regulated because you can tax it. It's about the money. Governments can't tax childbirth, so there is no incentive to get involved... There is an incentive to arrest bad kids though, because of all the fines that are charged.
Judges can and do compel parents to parenting classes, but that would only happen after a problem is found.

It's called individual freedom which includes the freedom to be a rotten parent. However I doubt anyone is stopping you from taking parent classes.

I totally agree with you. Many parents today were not taught "proper" parenting by their parents and so with each generation it gets worse.
Good question and realization.

There is training on parenting! In the form of books , for those willing to read ! There is no mandatory diploma for it, because that would constitute a dictatorship! We are free to practice freewill in all democratic countries! That's one of our privileges in our country! Free will is our GOD given right, and it is up to us to find truth by living and learning!
