Okay -- so why don't people use them instead of posting the question here?? If it's explicit knowledge that you can find with a search, why waste space here?

Sigh. Obviously, I'm referring to information (explicit knowledge) that one CAN find in books. The purpose of a knowledge base is to share IMPLICIT knowledge -- that is, knowledge you can't get from a book or other resource other than the brain of another human from his/her experience.

Using a search engine is easy, and is also a lot safer way to get the information that you need than posting here. I wouldn't take the advice of the Yahoo! Answers community seriously. I'm sure that upon occasion, a sensible and valid answer is given here. But the high number of ignorant and malicious answers far outweighs the usefulness of the site, in my opinion. It is more of a social networking site than a serious attempt at answering legitimate questions.

Girl, you're so right! I see numerous questions on here from people who don't want to search for the answer themselves. I see questions that ask where can i find the answer to...or do you know that website for...

Why can't they do it themselves? It's a choice: they don't want to!

GOOD QUESTION!
