I guess it really depends on if all of the decorations are one theme or several themes. If they are all one scene than I guess it would be ok to put as many as you want up but if they are several scenes than maybe it would make the decorations look unorganized or they may draw the attention away from certain other decorations. But I say heck..it's Christmas time..put up as many as you want.

that's the question i was gonna ask you.
And how do I know I have too many up?
it depends how much, if you have A TON but it's still organized i doubt that it will look dumpy but if you have a lot and it's just all over the place, yeah it will
on the other hand, again if it is organized it will look really good
hope this helps

I think so.
But then if it's Christmas, who cares? It's the holidays.
And we all know that the chilldren and pets running amok will strew the decorations all over the place and uncle Frank will always pass out on the easy chair and rip em' after too much eggnog
and the mother in law will be going on about some pottery class and Auntie Tallulah will become a giant kid herself
and run amok with them all afternoon because it compliments her ADD perfectly
and your cousin Reg will be screaming at
your cousin Jamie and any number of
toddlers will at any given time erupt into
choruses of"Waaah' in 5.1.,and the phones will be sporadically ringing from
all your hopped up neighbors and friends and somebody bashed your big plastic santa that you bought at Wal mart for 34.95 that lit up in the front yard which bums you out but it's too cold to go out
and so Santa now has a clubfoot and
where in the fridge are all these leftovers going to go?

Heck Yes!
My neighbor- across the street, keeps adding more and more each year, and it just tacky-er each time.
nothing is never in order, or matches... like the lights hang crook off the edge as if they are falling off, she fills the yard with 'yard stuff' wich makes it look junky ( we have very small yards)
and she hags thing from the window, that looks crappy.... a little goes a long way- she goes waaay overboard with everything!
this summer they decided to make a garden in the front yard- with a water fall of sorts, OMG! then they took stones to make a 'porch/sitting area, and it lloooks HORRIBLE.
then she put PLASTIC window boxes up, and added to it PLASTIC flowers from the dollar store, poor thing, it makes the whole neighborhood look bad- but nobiody wants to hurt her feelings, she is really a sweet lady, but just tacky taste!

Yes. Having too many decorations is overkill.
Do you really need Santa and his reindeer, plus the nativity scene.
and have lights all over the place, snowmen and other winter/Christmas related items.
fake lighted trees and those deer. Polls wrapped with garland....
if you can't see you're house anymore..its overkill...

I believe in simple, but elegant. Too many decorations will either make your home look like Kmart at Christmas, or the Griswold's house in "National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation."

I would say that this is purely a matter of taste. Do you like the way your house looks when it is decorated? Do you feel like it is overwhelming or tacky? What matters is whether or not you like the way it looks.
I say, decorate to your heart's content!
