I compare them favourably to Grand Funk, a hugely popular band back in the day.

They were bass driven, with guitar riffs used to cement the song rather than as virtuoso.

If U2 is the Beatles, then RHCP is the stones, popularity wise.

The Chili Peppers are still cool and hip. They're way more funky than the Rolling Stones ever were. But, I'm biased because I hate the Stones and I LOVE the Peppers.

No. The Chili Peppers come nowhere in comparison to the infamy of the Rolling Stones. I like them, but there old stuff is better.
