Busch practice, Cup car practice and Craftsman Truck Series race is all on Friday so, there wouldn't be time for qualifying.

In 1984 the Busch series was created from the Sportsmans series. The Sportsmans series was nearly as closely related to the Winston/Nextel cup series as the Busch series, and was not seen as a step up to the cup series. In the Sportsman series events were held in one day (qualify/heat race/race). This may be a hold over from that time.

In addition to what the others said about timing of practice, etc., it was also designed to save the Busch teams money (less time in hotels, etc.) This benefits the Busch only or smaller teams and works better for them at stand-alone events. At companion races (with NNC), the bigger teams just combine the Busch costs into NNC.

At the stand-alone events, the crowds were so small at qualifying for these races, it was more cost-effective for those tracks to have the events all in one day.

Because the cup cars, bush cars and the trucks are all racing at the same track, with everyone showing up as early as Thur. morning.. NASCAR has to speed everything up..
