I've always wondered if that could not be interpretted differently as in a "long time ago" instead of "A long time ago". My point is that a "long time ago" could be an actual unit of measure like an eon or a millenium. It makes that whore Millenium Falcon title seem all the more significant. From begining to end I would say the saga takes 42 years, at least if they don't finish it. If they do it could take another fifty or so years. So, I would guess a hundred years. But that is in Star Wars time. In a different galaxy a year may be longer or shorter than on Earth. You can never tell for certain how long a "long time ago" is without knowing how that galaxy works celestially.

at the beginning, sure, as much as the rest, organising from the very beginning up that the telling of a tale from the previous is a substantial area of the reason. Now, this does not advise our previous. that's a galaxy some distance, some distance away. even though, the memories in celebrity wars, a time line of 25,000 years, have the flavour of memories heard at a interior reach cantina, or legends spun by ability of elderly storytellers. that's my appropriate rebuttal for each and all of the inconsistencies interior celebrity wars; they are only legends. it truthfully relies upon on whose tale you hear...or your point of view! lol My admired enactment of that's in the audiobook sequence of legacy of the stress, the place each and each e book starts with the voice of an particularly previous woman saying the words "an prolonged time in the past...". It at present day brings to innovations a picture of a few previous grandmother surrounded by ability of huge eyed infants eagerly waiting for yet another tale.

Thousands of years ago, because it happened in a galaxy far far away, and the closest galaxy to our Milky Way is thousands of light years away.

It doesn't really matter. Lucas wanted to paraphrase "Once upon a time."
