Hi there...G4 Macs can be upgraded from OS 9 to the full retail version Mac OS X Tiger. Here's a list of G4 machines that are upgradable: http://www.apple.com/macosx/upgrade/requirements.html

You can purchase the OS X software direct from Apple http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore.woa/wa/RSLID?mco=405B1455&nplm=MA453Z%2FA

Additionally, in order to optimally run OS X you will also need to purchase more memory (RAM) for your particular model G4 machine which you need to convey in order to purchase the correct RAM modules. You can purchase more RAM direct from Apple or third-party companies. However, some of these other companies may expect you to know exactly which RAM you will need.

Upgrade a G4 to 9? Yikes. You should be looking at upgrading to OSX, and if that is NOT possible, then consider buying a new Mac. You would be even more frustrated with OS9.

Good luck
