I found out that the company I used to work for was practicing illegal activities after I signed the confidentiality agreement. Would I breach the contract if I release the information about their illegal activities to the authorities?

It depends on the actual wording of the agreement. Most states invalidate any agreement that aids or conceals the event of a crime. If your agreement includes non-disclosure to governmental authorities than you might still face civil liability for doing the "right" thing.

It sounds cliche but you should consult an attorney who specializes in employment agreements before you put yourself at risk.

Generally, a confidentiality agreement does not extend to protect against illegal activity. That's a matter of public policy, and the courts in most states/countries will not enforce the confidentiality agreement in such situations.

But to be sure, you should consult with a licensed attorney/solicitor, who can research the laws of your particular state/country.

If you USED to work for them, you could do it without giving your name, even if you DO still work for them, you don't have to give your name. I wouldn't want to take the chance of having charges against me for something I didn't do. I would do something about it a.s.a.p. Good luck.
