A celebrity is someone who becomes a media baby by thriving at some industry in which many people pay close attention--sports, theatre, movies. In smaller towns local celebrities can include anyone from a newscaster to the mayor.
However, being a celebrity does not make them immune to the laws. Since they often used their success to get their way, many will take advantage of them. Because they knowingly place themselves as celebrity figures, they are often less able to sue for lible since they PUT themselves in that situation.

Wow, that's actually a really good question! I really don't get the obsession with celebrities. I mean they are just people like everyone else, why should they be worshipped?? I think what makes a celebrity a celebrity is just doing somethhing that gets people's attention and your name well known. Think about it Sadam Hussein (Sp?) is really a celebrity if you think about it, but he didn't act in some big movie or sing a popular song. (And I think we're all glad he didn't!)

Infamous = Monica Lewinsky or Pee Herman
Beauitful = Beyonce/Scarlett
Done something incredible = Lance Armstrong/Michael Jordan
Talented = Tom Hanks/Denzel Washington
Any/ or will basically make you a celebrity...

Well first be filthy rich, have good acting skills or a good voice (or both), and get noticed and you have to be on televison at least maybe once.You also HAVE to have a ginormous house, a tricked out car, a sweet person to be married to, a million paparazis following you, a huge limo, talented children (if you are old enough), your own show (or a show you co-star in), good looks, bodyguards, backstage access, and of course you have to be popular.

being at least good at what they do...or on rare occasions they get famous for being rich and do nothing. their looks can be some part of it but really their charisma is what defines the status. many do their acting or singing at a young age and so have been doing it for a while. so sometimes experience can factor in.
i think notorious people are a whole nother story..i wouldn't consider..say.. Hitler as a celeb but as a notorious person. celeb to me means you earn your popularity in a good way or are just rich.
