Best Buy has announced they will be using "Happy Holidays" this coming Christmas shopping season, and they will not be using "Merry Christmas."

Dawn Bryant, a spokeswoman at Best Buy Co. Inc., says their advertising will not be using the term "Merry Christmas." "We are going to continue to use the term holiday because there are several holidays throughout that time period, and we certainly need to be respectful of all of them," Bryant said.

While many other retailers have decided to return to the traditional "Merry Christmas", Best Buy will not be among them. Best Buy considers the use of "Merry Christmas" to be disrespectful.

But while Best Buy, the largest consumer electronics company in the nation, will not be mentioning Christmas, they sure do want the shopping dollars from those who remember the Reason for the season.

WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT THIS? IT MAKE'S ME MAD! OR DO YOU NOT CARE? ARE YOU A MERRY CHRISTMAS PERSON? X-MAS? OR HAPPY HOLIDAYS AND WHY?

I support the decision. Best Buy is a business. And there is more than one religion and holiday celebrated in December. Keeping those two things in mind, this seems to be a simple business decision that ensures all are welcome. In fact, Best Buy is not only a US retailer, but is an international retailer. I would think that cultural awareness would be key. It makes sense to me.

I find it to be very frustrating. The reason for the holiday is the birth of Jesus Christ. I will be saying "Merry Christmas", and not shopping at Best Buy this year (even though I'd very much like to).

I feel this is a good move by Best Buy. Not everyone in this country celebrates Christmas. By saying Happy Holidays...it's sharing the holidays with EVERYONE and it's not excluding people and their religions. Please don't get upset about this, you can still celebrate Christmas and you can still say Merry Christmas.

no person is banning "Merry Christmas". it is in elementary terms that those agencies, managers and instructors have stopped saying that and use the extra inclusive "happy trip trips". that doesn't recommend that trouble-free anybody is banned from saying that to a minimum of one yet another. I nevertheless pay attention many people say "Merry Christmas" to a minimum of one yet another. in spite of the reality that i'm no longer Christian, i'm nevertheless instructed this via many people and that i merely say it decrease back. it is merely like how agencies and instructors and others do no longer say "happy Eid" or "happy Hanukkah" (all 3 trip trips often ensue interior days of one yet another) yet instead say "happy trip trips". i do no longer see something incorrect with agencies, particular merchants, and colleges no longer saying "Merry Christmas" extremely. It *does not* recommend that the saying is banned. :)

I'm a merry christmas person because that is what the name of the day is called CHRISTMAS!It makes me so mad that gay people
and none religious people can walk around saying and doing what ever they feel like and if we want to say a word that has Christ in the title we are baned and scorned about it!I think it's really sad that the dumb ceo's of Wal mart best buy and other stores worry so much over one little word when they could be spending there time helping others. Also the day after thanksgiving Wal mart is going to give 5 % of the money they get on that day to gays.so please don't shop there on that day! I just don't understand why you give money to people because they sleep with some?Well then we should all get money because we sleep with people!Do you agree with me!Also store like best buy and Wal mart wouldn't give any money to our town's special Olympics now how reticules is that!I'm sorry i got a little off subject but i think you get my point and the way i feel!

Yes i'm a christian and yes i feal very strong about this !

You might just discount this (heh heh, no pun intended with the best-buy/discount thing....), but it's an off-topic answer. I'm all for free speech, so I'm glad you're being right out there with your thoughts, as others benefit from knowing who they're dealing with...okay, long-winded...ahem...You may get this a lot, I'm new here, so I don't know-- but your tag/name/ID coupled with the question I'm responding to, gives the impression that you are extremely right-wing-- My father was a Christian minister, and I'm United, if that tells you anything, but I have a Q for you, seeing as this is Q&A and you've put yourself out there-- I'm married and hetero, but (refering to your 'name') wondering why you would care to squash the dreams of others who love eachother? How does it personally affect you if two people you DON'T KNOW, of ANY preference, get married legally? I really am trying to understand that. I'm sure you didn't really give two sweet d a m n s (not being histrionic, just don't want them to bleep me) that I am married, except to let you know I'm not 12 and that the other connotations we put with marriage, but you know what I mean? I'm not trying to convert you to be more open, as you are likely an intelligent person who just has different views, but it makes me want to pick your brain, as I truly don't understand why you feel the need to decide for other adults, what they responsibly do, and with whom. I guarantee that I don't want to know what my neighbours do behind closed doors, hetero, homo, or otherwise. If it's not my life or my family, why would it be my worry or my business? Maybe it's that-- a family member for you? Or a friend's family member and it became contagious? -- Okay....I'm amazed if anyone has read this far, as I realize this is reeeeally long. - And for those who want to tell me this isn't the place to discuss this, and to take it to another topic, I probably won't see your response but it wasn't meant to be preaching, anyway-- Just noticed the tag/name/ID and it spurred me to write-- I'm sure this is the longest post I'll write on here-- My first, and maybe some of you hope, my last-- Big smiles to you all-- if you have nothing to fear, you fear nothing-- I'm curious about the homophobic mind, and God Bless (North)America, this is a forum to ask about it--

I think most stores should just say happy holidays, it is true we have boxing day, christmas, christmas eve, it would make more sense with the advertising to say holiday shopping time is here, and we wish you all the happy holiday spirits as well, nothing wrong with it, I rather use the happy christmas for my family, and say happy holidays to strangers.

The reason everyone is shopping for gifts is because IT IS CHRISTMAS. It they do not want to call the reason for the season CHRISTMAS, do not shop there. Money talks

Personally, it doesn't make me mad. As long as the message of 'Happy Holidays' comes across, it doesn't matter to me how it's worded. Why such an emphasis is placed on a greeting, puzzles me...This has been an on-going thing for a few years now.

Goes to show that Christmas is less and less about the birth of our Saviour with each passing year. How could something so important to mankind be treated with such disregard? Oh, yeah, they're making a lot of money so Christ no longer matters.
