My name is very unique and people say it's beautiful. I my boyfriend was looking up some baby names for oyr so called "daughter"(I'm not pregnant, he just wants to have a daughter) and he was sugessting a lot of Latin names and Celestial names. And he siad if we had a daughter together he would name her Kianira(means "The dawn" Kikuyu), Estella(means "Star" in Spanish),and Ayita which means "first to dance" in Cheeroke. Will these names make my kids be treated differently

Unless your family is unique and well-known or has other "special" attributes, a strange name will probably give the kid some problems.

There are other beautiful names out there that have beautiful meanings. Try to combine something simple, but easy to pronounce, not too long, and something people can easily remember that kind of just rolls off the tongue with a very nice meaning.

Kids really are aware of their names. I once knew a boy named Oakley, and it tormented him through his life. He eventually changed it to "Lee," but I'll never forget the teasing he went through!

Just put yourself in the shoes of the other kids and see how you would react. Make it simple, pretty, and meaningful. Good luck!

I think names do effect how people see you and how you see yourself. Most of the time when children are small being too different can be terrible for them. Some names you just have to grow into...if you pick an unusual name you might want to have a simple "nick" or "family" name in mind to use until the child gets older. There are lots of name books out there with great suggestions and helpful hints about the use of names. Don't be in such a hurry to come up with names...as you get older and married things change. Wait til your ready, who knows, you might have a boy someday.....

Honestly, knowing how cruel kids can be, they might get teased for having an abnormal name. But let's face it, kids tease each other for ANYTHING abnormal... clothes, haircuts, names, being too smart, being too dumb, being overweight, etc. It would be impossible for parents to shelter their child from all criticism. Even popular kids get insulted by unpopular kids! I think if you and your husband have a special name picked out, you should go for it. After all, it is your influence over your child that will matter the most. Just make sure you teach them the meaning/origin of their name and that you picked a special name for a special kid. I'm sure there will be just as many people out there that will compliment your child on their beautiful and unique name.

No because they are not ethnic. In all honesty I think you two should Wait until you see your kid before you name him/her. I had a list of names for any children I might have and I still have names that I love, but when I saw my daughter for the first time her name just came out and it wasn't a name I had even thought about before. She looks like her name. I do find that most people with more urban names have more of a stigma to live down than others because of what people perceive they must be like because of their names, ie Shaniqua and DeAonte.
Sad, but true.

Wow, now people are misspelling in different languages too. It's Estrella for star, not estella. They will be treated differently, but not because the names mean something because they are so freaky. If everyone knew the names meanings that would be nice, but they are just gonna say "Kiana-whatzit?"

Whoopee, "first to dance", go to the front of the line!

It can go either way. Some people with different names are made fun of and some are made "popular". I think it honestly depends on the temperment of the child. But, every day I feel society is becoming closer to being tolerant of difference and will embrace anything. Good luck in your future pregnancy!

I am afraid it does make a difference on how people treat them, and it may make it hard to get a job when they grow up. My grandson has a unique (weird) name, which I do not like. But, of course, I could never have said anything.
