He said in the middle of last century there was a game on TV called Beat the Cock. How is that possible? He typed that to me in an email, and I was shocked.

It was Beat the Clock and hosted by Bud Collier. I think your grandpa might be having a senior moment, or a good chuckle at your expense... : )

Well, ..... last century was the 100 year period from Jan. 1, 1900 until Dec. 31, 2000

This century is from Jan 1, 2001 until Dec. 31, 2100 - a century being a full 100 years.

There was a show on tv called "Beat the Clock" and it aired (ran) from approx. 1950 to 1958 -- which puts it squarely in the middle of the last century
If your grandpa typed it as **** (suggesting profanity), he was playing some kinda of prank on you probably.

The only show I remember "beating" anything was Beat the Clock. Me thinks Grandpa's got a wicked sense of humor.
