As state universities go, Penn State is a fantastic school. Any good school will have a very good teacher education program, and Penn State certainly does.

My professional advice? Wherever you go, double major. That way you will have a degree in a subject of specialization (history, chemistry, English, math, etc.) as well as a major in education. The major in education will put you on the path to teacher certification, and will include some student teaching before you graduate, which will help tremendously in getting a job later. The other major, in an academic subject of study, will impress future employers, and will allow you to bring real depth of knowledge (and contacts in academia) to your classrooms in your future career.

Honestly, though, the double major will only serve you well if you plan to teach above grade 4 or so. As I am sure you already know, there are not usually "subject teachers" in the lower grades.
