The mathematical constant pi (π) is an irrational real number, approximately equal to 3.14159, which is the ratio of a circle's circumference to its diameter in Euclidean geometry, and has many uses in mathematics, physics, and engineering.
A pie, OTOH, is something nice to eat.

You are asking the question in dining out so all I can say is that a pie is a dish consisting of a pastry crust and a filling of fruit or meat.
3.142 is pi not pie.

Pie is a delicious dessert that comes in many delectable flavors. "A baked food composed of a pastry shell filled with fruit, meat, cheese, or other ingredients, and usually covered with a pastry crust."
Pi is "A transcendental number, approximately 3.14159, represented by the symbol , that expresses the ratio of the circumference to the diameter of a circle and appears as a constant in many mathematical expressions." It's also the 16th letter of the Greek alphabet.

pie is a pastry food, pi is 3.142.
But if you made a pie in the shape of the number 3.142, then you could eat a pi-pie. (This is a bit like having your cake and eating it......although officially cake is a different number - 1.175).
Hope this helps,
JB

It is 22/7, twenty-two over 7.
Cant remember who invented it - he was one of those clever people who never went out at night, studied the stars and stuff like that.
He discovered that if you took 22 pies, got 7 friends round and all stood in a cirlce, that he could accurately work out how far it was from his left arm to his right.
He was a clever dude.
22/7 is an infinite number. It will never calculate out - try it and see. Told you he was clever...........

The mathematical constant Ï represents the ratio of a circle's circumference to its diameter and is commonly used in mathematics, physics, and engineering. Ï is the lowercase Greek letter equivalent to "p" in the Roman alphabet; its name is "pi" (pronounced pie), and this spelling can be used when the Greek letter is not available
