Where did the temperature of the Universe come from in the supposedly BiG Bang theory of Creation?

In the very early universe, light and matter were in an equilibrium. At that point in time, the universe was opaque because the temperature was high enough that the matter scattered the light. As the termperature fell, it eventually got to the place that light was no longer scattered (as much) by matter. The light from this time period is visible as the Cosmic Microwave Background radiation. This happened when the universe was about 380,000 years old. The first stars were much later: probably when the universe was over a billion years old.
