My period is 2 days late and a pregnancy test is negative. What is the possibility of a pregnancy test been wrong? Has anyone had a negative result but turned out to be pregnant after all?

oh yes. I had three pregnancy tests when I became pregnant with my fifth child in my early forties and two were negative! My period was two weeks late, and I did a home test. It was negative. A week later, still no period, I went to my GP, who sent in a sample to the local maternity unit. It too came back negative. My GP told me that it was possibly the start of the menopause! Yet I just knew I was pregnant. I waited another week then went to a family planning clinic for the third test, and this time it was positive. It's early days yet; and it is very possible to get a false negative. Try and wait a week to allow the hormones to build up in your body.

I know quite a few people who have taken negative tests and still turned out to be pregnant. You really need to take a couple and then go to the Dr/family planning clinic who can do a far more accurate test. 2 days isn't drastically late though is it? Unless you are usually bang on time, almost to the hour like some people are! Sometimes stressful events or a change in diet can disturb menstrual cycles! Good luck whatever the outcome!!XXX

Two days isn't long - for the test to work, the pregnancy hormones have to build up. You can get a false negative, but not a false positive. So, give it a few days and try again, if you can wait that long... Good luck!

I did a test 2 days after my period was due and it was negative. So I waited another 2 days and did another one, got a positive result, but it was a faint line. So I tried again 3 days later and it was positive again and I stronger line. I'm 17 weeks now!

If you are TTC, then please don't do what I (and many others) do and get too excited about being late, in case you later do come on. I am currently 2 days late, TTC, and hoping to be pregnant but not getting my hopes up. As others have also said here, it could be stress, you could have miscalculated, your cycle could be changing or irregular, or you could have tested too early. False negatives do happen. I hope that you get the result you're looking for soon.

Yeah it is possible, i had a false neg once but was experiencing full on pregnancy symptoms so did a test a week later and was positive. HCG levels rise every few days.
Good luck xx

It's ok if its two days late. My sister has really odd days. Oine time it will be 28 and the next it will be 34. And if the test is negative, its probably true. So dont worry, its probably just your period acting weird. Hope I helped. And good luck.

You can get false negatives on test, I had a couple. If you period has not arrived by Monday get a Doctors appointment.

Best of luck.

It happens. You can get a false negative because you mis calculated your cycle, or your body isnt producing a high enough level of hromones to be detected.

You can either go have blood work dont to make sure you're not pregnant, or you can wait a week and test again to make sure.

Its not a terribly common thing, but its certainly not unheard of.
