No. It is a different species, same genus. Subspecies are the 3rd word in the scientific name that denote race only. For instance, Ursus arctos middendorffi (the Kodiak bear) and Ursus arctos horriblis (continental brown bear) are the same exact species but a different subspecies or race.

Loxodonta africana... African Bush elephant
Elephas maximus... Asian Elephant.

You can see it is actually a different genus and species. Same family of Elephantidae.

No, it's another species. Both fall under the general term, "elephants" but they're different animals.
