My friend seems to take everything so personally. I told him, "not everything is about you!" My roommate doesn't like him, and asked me not to have him over to the house. So my friend flips out and brings up OTHER issues that upset him. He can't stick to the subject, which is, his feelings are hurt. What a big baby. How do you get through to someone like that??

What he is doing is a form of manipulation which you are obviously not buying into. He gets upset when you don't. Your choices are to confront him about it and tell him you don't want a friend like that and either he needs to grow up or find another friend. Otherwise you will be nursing this needy brat all the time.

First understand his need to feel important to be belong. An assertive way to handle it is to just say I know thats ur way of looking at it. and that is interesting. What do u think of this and tell him what u think. That allows u to have ur say and it might teach him something. Good luck Curious 2006

I would try to tell him one more time that the world does not revolve around him and if he continues but your sorry your friendship will end, you do not deserve a friend to bring you down to his circumstances not fare and not right. Good Luck!

try sitting him down and have a long heart to heart talk with him, and explain as calmly as you can, that he can't always be so selfish and that he need to stop thinking that everything rival's around him.
