Are you really sparing someones feelings by lying to them? I believe you are actually hurting them, a friend is a friend, a friend is not a liar, I'd rather tell the truth, if asked, than to lie, then to have someone else answer the way that I should have, and my friend not to trust me anymore, if the truth hurts well, so be it. In this day in time we all need to get over our fears and be honest for a change, we've been lying to each other for too long, you should speak nothing but the truth, the bible says so, and if you don't believe in my God's word then you deal with the consequences....

Generally, yes, but it depends on the situation. I remember my mother's best friend from high school who had let her hair go gray. It had been that way for a few months when my mother got together with her and saw it. Right away my mother told her it looked awful and made her look old. (Naturally, she didn't do this in front of a large group or shout it across a street or something that would have been humiliating.) My Aunt Helen said it had been that way for months but everyone had told her it looked great but my mom. My mom just told her that maybe they might be lying to spare her feelings. She checked with her other friends and found out my mother was right. She called later to thank my mom for telling her the truth instead of pretending it looked good when it didn't.
A man, though, should never tell a women that something "makes her look fat" unless she will go out in public and truly embarrass herself. Otherwise, it's just hurtful and makes her feel self-conscious about herself and her clothing.
So, it really depends on the situation and how close you are to the person.

I think it depends on the circumstances. What would be the outcome of revealing the truth? Would it bring about healing or create discord and rifts in the family?
A close friend of mine who is a fervent atheist was fine with telling her dying mother that she was actually a believer. It did nothing to compromise her personal beliefs and gave her mother great peace of mind as she passed. If a person was molested as a child and suppressed that memory only to have it come back, revealing it to the people involved is often vital to their recovery. If uncle Jack was loved and respected by the whole family and someone finds out he had a cowardly episode in the second world war, why does anyone need to know? He's certainly punished himself enough for it, who would benefit?
Some family secrets should be told, some reveals serve no positive purpose - you need to look within and be honest with yourself about such things - there are no simple answers.

>Is it incorrect to lie as a manner to spare someones thoughts? i assume that relies upon how significant in fact in that subject in assessment to how significant the thoughts are. even though, i think of tremendously lots all of us ultimately needs to loosen up lots so as that we in no way experience we would desire to continuously lie to all people. Honesty is regularly the appropriate coverage, and being indignant is regularly not a solid coverage. As for what the Bible says approximately it, so some distance as i comprehend it only supplies an coaching to not lie (or 'bear fake witness', even though you choose to interpret that to point). i don't comprehend of everywhere the place it makes an exception to this rule.

When you lie to somene you risk hurting them twice. Once for finding out the real answer and once more for you lie. Just tell the truth in the first place.

i believe its called a white lie, but nonetheless, just do what is right, to be brutally honest sometime makes people hate you, it ok to give a white lie in the case where if the person found out you lied to spare his/her feelings and they're ok with that.
