If you could change the nextel points system anyway you wanted, how would you make it. Try and be fair and don't fix it to make your driver in it.

skydog. if stewart was so good, he would have made the chase. You have 26 races before the chase and have plenty of opportunities to make it.

I don't like the chase the way it is. It's just a matter of time before some one who does not have a win in the first 26 races and is in tenth in points but out 500 plus points puts together 10 trouble free races and wins the championship. Since I am stuck watching a nasty system I don't like. I think I would change it 1) must win to qualify 2) must be within 300 points of first 3) more points for winning 4) some points for pole 5) laps lead bonus must be under green flag. I thought about someone's comment about defending champ should get a free pass and although I like the idea of being able to defend the title, I think not. That would be like the Superbowl champion or the World Series winner getting a free pass to the playoffs. Sometime, teams don't deserve a shot. Even if I think Stewart should have been in this year. Fans vote in? Terrible idea.

First, I want to say that you should consider what a rough season this has been on Tony Stewart. Remember how his 33 car flipped early on? Remember how he got involved in so many accidents, (most out of his control) and then in one broke his collar bone? Tony had a rough season, and you see how close he was to getting into the Chase. And if he had made it, he would have been in first by now with all his wins.

I'm not trying to sound rude with that, by the way. I thought I'd clarify that because for some reason when I type out messages people think I'm attacking them or something, and I never am.

Anyway, as for a change in the system, I think they should give 10 more points to the winner, and 5 more to second place and leave all the rest the same. And it's be cool if they had a wild car spot where the fans could vote on a racer not placed into the Chase, and whatever racer got the most votes got put into the Chase as that wild card spot.

I've been a fan for over 15 years, The new "Chase" system is by far the best thing that has happend to NASCAR. As far as changing things go, I have heard from more than a few people that NASCAR will again change the system next year. The system will work in favor of the 10 chasers only and is scored on a 10 point rule. Meaning the highest finisher in the top ten will receive 10 pts. second highest will get 9 pts and so on.. 10th place will get 1 pt. You think its a nail bitter now...... Just wait.....

Wow theres a lot to read here, so I'm gonna try and not repeat what someone else has said. Here's my take: Yes and No, As far as my yes, on these boards, we can be, it seems like everyone wants to be the smarter guy or the big contibuter. I see so many good answers get thumbs down and it just blows me away. You can tell by reading folks anwsers on who really is being un-bias in their answers, these are the folks that I consider true fans. A fan, wither or not its against their driver or not, we'll answer a question as un-bias as possible. This just my opinion. As far as my no, fact remains, when your at a track, all the silly stuff that gets said here is completly out the window, because no one cares how long someone has been watching a sport, we're there to enjoy what we all enjoy. Thats good hard racing. As a Jr/Harvick fan, I've set with every other drivers fans, we give each other crap, laugh, drink beer and enjoy the racing. I have never one time gotten into an argument with anyone at a track or off these public forums, because when we are off of here, we're real people that cant hide behind a screen name. (by the way, my name is Darrell) If a person chooses to jump from driver to driver, I really dont care, maybe sometimes it takes that for someone to find a driver that is a good fit for them as a fan. I'd just hate to have their bills for hats, collectibles, stickers and so on. You also dont have to wait out winning slumps. But the bashing is by far not because of Kyle and Logano, I remember some band wagon jumping when Jeff Gordon (just to name one driver) first hit the scene and all the bashing that guys jumping over to him were getting. IMO, it's only more prevalent (at least here on this board) because they're are a lot more folks one this board then what there was this time last year. Either way, I think this is a good question, I try not to come accross as a snob, but how folks interpet other folks comments is always up in the air.

Using the same point system that makes up the chase today but add 2 drivers. The 12 th place driver is elemenated after the 1 st chase race. When the 10th race comes around it will be down to 2 drivers winner take all.
But really I'd rather see the old point system back.

I wish they didn't reset the points so closely at the start of the chase. Other than determining whether they are in the chase or not, they are basically ignoring the whole season. That allows a "weaker" chase driver to have a better chance to win by luck (I don't mean that the way it is written!!) whereas a driver who has been strong all season can have a couple bad races and be out of it. I think everyone who has won the chase deserves that win because that is a tough competition, but it definitely needs tweaked.

I might add 5 more drivers to the chase. I think the more the competition, the better it gets! Plus, drivers who were just on the brink (like my man Tony Stewart) would have made it in! The chase is so long, I think some more drivers added to the mix would be the intensity greater and make the races more interesting.

I'd like to see the points system change slightly. I think if they run the same way as they do now, but for the chase, The points leader at the beginning of the chase have a certain number of points, and the second place start five points down, and the third place guy five more points, and so on right through everybody in nascar that races. that way somebody in like 15th place at the beginning of the chase, still has a long shot (but a shot) at making it to the top. that's still giving the guy on top at the beginning of the chase an advantage, but alot of others, still can have something to shoot for.

I would change it back to before they messed it all up. The old Winston Cup points system.

(From Husband Nascar fan for 30+ years)

The system that worked from 1975-2003 was not broke, in fact it was the first system out of 12 that lasted more then 3 seasons up to the point of it's creation. The current system is weighted to the top 10 without consideration of how the final points standing could play out for any of the 'out'. The current system is a gimmick, by current head of NASCAR - Brian France, to try and acquire football fans (the only sport more popular then NASCAR in the US) who enjoy a play-off system because there teams do not play more then tone eam at a time. (This while the weekly installments of 'Wally's World' features football related personalities during the football season).

I am not a Nascar fan, but I think I'd put up a points system similar to the one in MotoGP and no stuff like that "chase" that everyone is talking about. That system is: 25 points for the winner, 22 for 2nd place, ..., and so on until 15th place, who gets 1 point.
Or if they had less cars, I'd put up the F1 points scoring system (10 points for the winner, 8 for 2nd, 6 for 3rd, 5 for 4th, ..., 1 for 8th place).
