How do you find out if any of your family has row numbers? I have tried finding out but have not came up with anything. Also what percentage American Indian does someone have to be to live in Reservations? I am just curious

the Indian group in question will tell you what percentage you need to be. They should also have some genealogy information, so gather all the information you can from your relatives.

I think you're talking about enrollment numbers and you have to go to the tribe you are from. They can help you from there because your family would be enrolled. Also I don't think you have to be any percent AI to live on the res because I grew up on one and so did many others who were not Native American Indian. I think that if you want them to build you a house though you have to have 'Family Land' so of course you have to go to the Tribe anyway and then get yourself enrolled.

Many tribes that currently have well-organized tribal governments have records that you can search or have searched. Cherokees were one of the earliest tribes to organize and form an autonomous government, for example, and have long worked to find out if kids were taken from the tribe and forcibly integrated into white society. If you know the tribe, contact them directly and ask them if they can help you. Sit down first and write down notes with as much detail of your family history (or that of the ancestor in question) as you can with which to provide them.

Just a warning... there is a LOT of research involved... I've been trying to do it for a while now.

Check out the Dawes Rolls:

On that website there are all the details there for getting tribal citizenship.

Hope that helps!
