Get involved in some sort of club or committee in your school. Volunteer in a clothes drive or something. You are gauranteed to meet some friends that way.

its not about groups..
just go up to someone who seems like a nice person.. who isnt too loud or irresponsible seeming.. and start up a conversation..
ask about the class "do you get what the teacher is talking about?" or "do you know when is this due?" and then just start talking from there...

groups tend to be close minded.. and its hard to adjust without having the feeling to change for them..
pick your friends wisely.

Ask if you could join them for lunch , then in the library, etc. What about asking your old friends why they ignore you? Perhaps you could patch things up. It is good to have many friends.

first OF ALL, NEVER SEEM DESPERATE! APPROACH A NEW GROUP, BY SAY, SITTING WITH THEM IN THE CAFETERIA. ASK THEIR NAMES, AND GET TO REALLY KNOW THEM. OR IF YOUR REALLY SHY, APPROACH YOU OLD FRIENDS AND ASK THEM WHAT THEIR PROBLEM IS. BECAUSE YOU SHOULDN'T JUST DROP FRIENDSHIPS IF THEY WERE THAT IMPORTANT TO YOU.
