Mexican-styled clothing would fit the description.
Also, the whole climate and feeling of Mexico is bright and colorful. Get a multi colored, multi layered skirt and pick the color in it that you like most. Top with a white peasant blouse or a blouse that suits the style. Then add a chunky necklace, bangles, earrings, bag and shoes (and a belt perhaps) in the color you liked most from the skirt. That way you will be bright and colorful without looking like a paintbox exploded on you!
If you want to upgrade the color thing a little, make the blouse bright yellow or orange (as long as it's a color from the skirt)
Oh and you could always add a beautiful fresh flower to your hair!

Buy a j. Crew strapless embossed beach dress. looks like ur in britain, so maybe a french connection, ally smith, karen millen, balenciaga....... oh... armani. buy a strapless or halter colorful dress, not big floral tho. if u dont like dresses, wear a solid colored tee shirt with a floral skirt (bennetton has great ones)

It depends on whether your gathering is formal or casual. As the hostess, you set the tone. Do what is right for you. Also, as the hostess, you will be busier than a toothless beaver. I suggest that--without looking like a slob--you make comfort a priority.

I might wear some nice tailored black pants, and a form fitting (not bulky!) not cable knit!) red sweater. Then I might wear some sparkly accessories in my hair and as jewelry. And I would definitely wear a fun shoe!
