I know what everyone is gonna say to..."it's not for your friend it's for you" - but its not. She asked me and I'm not sure. The thing is both of us are relativley young so neither of us has had a yeast infection to be able to know what it entails. She said that she is itching and that on occasion it hurts a bit and she is extremely uncomfortable. Oh god,....She's been using the Vagasil Anti-itch wipes and they give some releif but not much and not for long. She's worried that she's gonna have to spend money and go to the doctor. Is there something that we could go pick up at Wal-Mart, over the counter that she could use to make it stop? And what exactly is it?

Tell her:
Cotton underwear, loose pants, drink cranberry juice, go easy on the junk food, particularily anything sweet or superfatty, wash with mild soap and water, but do not wash inside the vaginal canal, she could upset the PH balance even more. There are good bacteria and bad bacteria, it is a very easily upset balance. Also, if she is using tampons, get the unscented ones and only as absorbent as she needs them. If she is sexually active, the activity needs to end until she is cleared up.
Try getting a tube of Vagisil instead of just the wipes, and go to a doctor. She should only use medications or treatments if a doctor has diagnosed it as a yeast infection.

Sounds like a Yeast Infection. There are plenty of over the counter creams you can buy at Walmart, or any drugstore, for a Yeast Infection. Usually cream is inserted vaginally once a night for 7 days. This should also help the itching and soreness. Vagasil only helps the symptoms. If she is sexually active and having unprotected sex, it might be STD's.
It might even be a bladder infection. If that's the case, you can also purchase cranberry pills, same store, and drink plenty of water.
See a doctor if neither helps.

If your friend is concerned about a possible vaginal infection which occurs when the vaginal environment becomes unbalanced I would encourage her to have an exam. Vaginal infections are not sexually transmitted. It may be a yeast infection or it could also be a bacterial vaginal infection called bacterial vaginosis. Only an examination by a clinician can diagnosis her properly. There are over the counter treatments for yeast infections, but if she has never had a yeast infection it is difficult for her to accurately determine if it is indeed a yeast infection, which is why an exam would be prudent. She can contact her local family planning clinic, many have discounted rates/sliding fee scales and she may pay nothing or very little.

She should really go to the doctor because it could possibly be a blader infection. You can treat it with Monistat. Probably best with Monistate 7 to be sure but whe will have to insert those all the way up there to use them. Why doesn't she tell her mom? It is nothing to be embaressed about. I think I got my first one when I was about 14. If you are not on your family medical (I guess maybe you are from the US so you don't have any?) then go to a clinic. They may even have sample packs to give you for free.

If she has never had a yeast infection she really should go to the doctor to make sure that's what it is. Having said that, there are several things she can get over the counter, like Monistat. It comes in either an ovule or a cream form, and is quite efficient, if you are not allergic to it.

A yeast infection itches like crazy. She'll do better if she visits a Dr. Check the yellow pages to find a woman's health clinic. Alot will offer cost lowered if one cannot afford to pay.......may be free if she qualifies. And drink plenty of cranberry juice. It's acidic nature helps to keep yeast at bay.....too much sugars in her system.

If she has a discharge she should go see a doctor to get fluconazole. If this continues she can start smelling really bad. For the itching apply plain yogurt to that area. It feels great.
