Yes, you will always see improvement with any upgrade of RAM.

However, upgrading RAM will never take the place of getting an actual video card. The function of the video card is to take the processing stress off of your main CPU. In other words, it adds a second CPU to do the sparkly effects so that your computer can concentrate on the calculations involved.

Trying to fit your PC with more RAM is essentially trying to bypass the inherent need for a second CPU to take the stress off of your primary one. In a word, it won't work. Go buy a lowend video card. Literally any one you pick up from the store will blow away any integrated card.

If you have a laptop, however, you can't really do that. The next best things to do are to a) get more RAM and b) get a new hard drive with a higher RPM. Most laptop hard drives are incredibly slow, even the ones labeled as being "Gaming Laptops"--running at 4200RPM or so (Desktop HD's run at 7200-10000). Try to get a faster one (5400 or 7200), that coupled with the RAM should get you a good boost in performance.

The cheapest and easiest way to improve the overall performance of your computer is to add memory [RAM]. However, you should understand that a dedicated video or graphics card will free up your CPU and allow for improved performance. I would put my money in a dedicated graphics card with as much memory on board as you can get and this will generally out preform the additional RAM.

If your game playing takes place on your local hard drive it should improve. If playing Yahoo games, or similar, it won't make much difference as you are using Yahoo's servers, your computer has not much control over them.
