First put an ice cube on it to make the wax hard and brittle. Try picking wax off to get most of it gone.

Next put a brown paper bag over the wax and apply a warm iron. That will melt wax and the bag will soak it up. Move to a clean spot on the bag and repeat until it is all off.

Take a towel, cotton preferably and press with a warm iron. Be careful not to touch carpet directly with iron. Sometimes if nylon is in carpet it may cause carpet to melt. So only use a warm enough iron to melt the wax. you might have to repeat the steps but it helps to get most of the wax out.

Place a towel over the wax.....Then use a steam iron and iron over the spot.....The iron will melt the wax and it will be absorbed into the towel.....It works..I knocked a candle over once.....You may have to go over it a few times with different parts of the towel.....

I,ve used a hot air hair dryer instead of an iron as their is much less danger of melting the fibers in the carpet, if you dont know what they are.
