I would think that minimum wage should be between 10 - 25 % of professionals salaries.

Lawyers, Doctors, Plumbers, Truck Drivers, professionals of any type get paid based on two primary principals, how much they had to train to become a professional (and subsequently how much their expertise is required) and how much income they generate (either for an employer or themselves).

So lets compare a property lawyer to a cashier at a supermarket. A lawyer can execute the title transfer of my house purchase and ensure that I am not getting ripped off. If he does not do his job properly I could loose tens of thousands of dollars (for some people hundreds of thousands of dollars). A cashier at a supermarket can actually be replaced by a self scanning device.

Which one do you think would generate more profit for their employer, requires more training and is more useful to execute their role?

If one is unhappy with their wage, the answer is not to compare it to what others have or what one does not have. The bottom line is you get out of life based on what you put into life. If you aren't getting enough out, then try putting more in. Go back to school, open a business, learn a trade, whatever will make you happy, regardless of what your neighbour is up to.......
