She is understandably quite worried. Is the baby lying on a nerve or should she get it checked out.

I am sure she is fine. The more into the pregnancy, the more pressure the baby is exerting on the body and like you said it probably is a nerve called siactic. Happened to myself and other friends. It can be a awkward situation if you are walking and your legs gives out somewhat. Shake it off and hopefully it will pass until it strikes agains.

according to the UHMS homepage

As your uterus grows, it rests on some of the nerves that go to your legs. Some nerves may be compressed if your legs are swollen from retaining water. Pressure on these nerves can cause numbness or tingling in your legs or toes. The condition is rarely serious and will go away after your baby is born. The same symptoms may occur in your arms, hands, or fingers.

A condition called carpal tunnel syndrome can cause burning, tingling, or numbness in one or both of your hands and may make your fingers go numb.

Tips for reducing numbness and tingling:

Rise slowly when getting up from lying or sitting position.
Ask your health care provider about stretching exercises and sitting/lying positions that may provide relief from numbness and tingling in your legs.
If you have carpal tunnel symptoms, ask about splints and/or exercises that may help.

I'm not a doctor but I have been pregnant and I think it could be that the baby is in a bad position, or maybe she's retaining too much water (you can tell if her legs or feet are swollen) that could be harmful so she should say something to her OBGYN but when I was pregnant I was told to eat bread and crackers and stuff like that b/c it would help soak the water up. I'd try moving around a bit or eating to try and get the baby to move and see if that's what the problem was but whenever anything happens when you're pregnant I'd talk to your doctor about it!

Good luck to your friend!

She should get it checked, but it is probably just the baby laying on a nerve. She should try switching positions to try to encourage the baby to move. My son did this a lot when I was carrying him. For some reason, he liked to nestle towards my lower back, which put lots of pressure on my sciatic nerve during the last few months. Simply standing or kneeling on the floor and doing some cat stretches was enough to get him to find another place to bed down for the night.

Probably a nerve. Yes, she should have it checked out. No, she should not worry. She'll have years and years of worrying ahead of her when the baby is born. No worries now. Just a call to the doctor.

Smiles, and have fun today. (Tell her not to get on your nerves; make her laugh)!

Ok this can be two things trapped nerve casued by baby lying in a certain position or poor circulation in her legs caused by doing to much or not enough both common in pregnancy.
She needs to mention this to her midwife/doctor so they can make sure she and baby are ok.
She may need support tights when up and about I had to wear them whilst I was still at work as my job I was on my feet all day and occasional I went numb support tights recommended by my midwife. Always check with doctor or midwife if one she is worried and two before trying anything people recommend.

It's very possible that the positioning of the baby has touched a nerve. She needs to put in a call to the doctor.

she is probably either walking alot or standing alot, with the extra weight and pressure of the baby on her pelvis, the legs can take quite a bit of punishment, pregnant women really shouldnt stand or walk for extreme lengths of time, i.e. 2 hrs or more.

its simple, treat your body like a temple and not like you use to, tell your friend to take breaks even if she isnt tired, it helps in the long run....her body and her baby will thank her....

I don't know how far along she is but it very possibly could be a nerve. As with anything you are not sure of she should at the very least call the doctor and ask.
