Yes! An adaptor can be purchased for just about anything!
Please see your retail clerk at Home Depot or Loews.
If one place ain't got one, the other one does!
As the learned answerer above has mentioned, it has different prongs for a power reason.
However, I have been using the wrong prong adapter on my apartment sized dryer for 4 yrs now.
Not a problem.
Remember, never leave your dryer running while you are away from the home!

RE:
Can an adapter be purchased for a laundry dryer, to go from 3 prong to 4 prong?
I've recently purchased a used laundry dryer, which has 3 prongs, the outlet in my apartment is 4-prongs. Can an adapter be purchased for the dryer to fit the 4 prongs?

Get an electrician! The 4-prong outlet could be 3 phase 440V, your 3 prong outlet could be 2 phase 220V. Cobbling together an adapter may ruin your dryer or set the building on fire.

The problem is that the reason that there are both three and four prong plugs is that signals there is a different amperage for one circuit versus the other to keep you from plugging in the wrong kind. You could change the cord without needing an adapter. however if the plugged-in dryer uses more power than the circuit can provide the breaker will pop (or the fuses blow) and it will not run.

Nope, you change the power cord. Any hardware store or appliance store has an assortment as it is a common problem. Just make sure you know what your receptacle looks like and tell anyone at the store. You can probably do the whole change in 3 minutes with a screwdriver but make sure you read the directions so you get the wires on the correct terminal. Good Luck!

No... or at least I have never seen one. An adapter wouldn't do you any good anyway. Usually what you have to do is change the cord or outlet on the dryer. Unless you are an electrician or know something about it, I wouldn't mess with it. Call an electrician.

Change the cord. Take the cover from around the cord off, use a phillips head or nut driver to loosen the screws on the power block. Each lug on the block should already have a red, white, black, and green wire on it. Just remove the old cord and install the 4 wires on the new cord by matching the colored wires. If there in not a slot for the green wire, look for a green, gold colored or silver screw in the frame right next to the other wires, loosen that screw and insert the green wire there. Good luck

No. You have to change the cord on the dryer. It's actually NOT very hard and the new cords have instructions. They're fairly cheap too. Check Lowes or Home Depot.
