look up Phish downloads... I'm biased of course, but...
They encouraged their fans to record them live, and they have never cared about the whole napster/free download thing.
Their guitarist, Trey Anastasio, goes absolutely nuts sometimes. He is a true virtuoso.
Also, if you've never heard Phil Keaggy (christian rock, instrumentals), find these songs:
Watt Ever
Sherlock Ohms
John the Revelator
Salvation Army Band
Watch my Back
Whatever Life Demands
Z Blues
Jimi Hendrix's family put out a CD called "Blues", old recordings of Jimi playing blues, it is incredible.
Eric Clapton - Groanin the blues
Jeff Beck - Stomp
Govt Mule (hard rock) - Mother Earth
Todd Snider (country/rock-a-billy)
Somebody's Coming
My Generation
The Joker
All Right Guy
Just in Case
the Allman broithers (their two newest cd's) - "where it all begins" and "hittin the note"
hope you like these!
peace

If you like early metal style (think Black Sabbath, the heavier side of Zeppelin, etc) check out a couple of bands called Mastodon and Early Man.
