Everyone knows as soon as the Dems win control of the House who the speaker will be. We also know who will be in charge of the various committees. How are these selections made? Who decides? It doesn't seem like a vote, since they all know ahead of time. Fill me in on this please.

I'm wondering though how they knew the speaker would be Nancy Pelosi before the Dems even won, as well as the chairmen of the various committees.

In the United States,
in the U.S. House of Representatives
and in state legislatures and local government councils,
the speaker is usually SELECTED
by the members of the majority party
and functions as a leader of that party.
Thus, though the speaker is expected to be fair,
he or she uses procedural rulings
to advance the causes and agenda of his or her own party.
Ceremonially, the speaker may represent the whole house,
but politically he or she is the legislative voice
of the party in power.
The Speaker of the House of Representatives
in the U.S. Congress
is second in line for succession to the presidency:
should the president and vice president be unable to serve,
the speaker becomes president.

After Nazi Pelosi, anything would be an improvement. If we could just get Nazi out of that chair, they can make the Chair itself the Speaker for all I care. She looks delusional to me though,so whoever has to tell her to step down should probably take an armed escort with them.I think she's going to go psychotically ballistic. RWE
