I was wanting to know how to live in this situation. I have a 5 & 6yr old and I want to be around to see them grow up. I never let them see my pain but they tend to sense it. I want to know if there is a really good program that can help me without shoving meds down me. The medication is part of the reason I am having my problems.(Side Affects) I am only 39 years and I there is a lot of things I still want to do but my body due to the pain I am always in will not allow it. I am an 18 year Army Veteran. Plus I am Air Borne. So you know there are back problems as well. I don't want pitty. I want serious answers. I would like to go back to school and finish my degree. Then go back to work. My son and my daughter know that I am retired but they even said that I should go back to work. They know that I am retired but they also know where my heart is. Children are very smart and we some times take that for granted. We should listen to them more. And this is the main reason I ask.

You aren't saying what type of medications you're taking. The stronger the pain medication, seems the more side effects like sleepiness go with it. Can you take Ibuprofen?
I'm 40 and it sounds to me like you've done quite a bit in your life and you want to continue to do so, especially because that's what your children want? Children, bless their hearts, usually want what the parent wants, for their parents to be happy. =)
Are there things you can do that aren't physically challenging? Maybe sell stuff on Ebay?
It's hard to give advice on something I have little feedback on. I hope you find the answers you're looking for.

First you need to go to the VA. You will find that the doctors there will treat you with respect. They have chiropractic care now. I know what you mean about the meds...they are always giving me stuff for depression but I often choose not to take it. If you served during the war call 1-800-827-1000 or go to the website below and apply for benefits. I finally went to apply because I have a back problem and depression. I was only working part time and could not support myself. Now I have some benefits and of course the VA takes care of my medical at no cost.

I'm a vet too, bro. So my question to you is: why haven't gone to the VA with all this? They've given me tons of help in the past. They have docs to assist you with your physical ailments, and counselors and psychologists to help you with your mental issues. And they won't make you take any meds you don't want. As far as school, you should be familar with the GI bill. Also, if you are ina any way incapacitated, you are eligible for a service-connected disability monthly check. Why don't you know all this stuff?
So, since you are 39 I'm assuming you are a Desert Storm vet. Who were you with over there? Where did you do jumpschool?

I know what you mean about shoving pills down us until we are more or less just not here! For my back pain I had great luck with a Chiropractor! It took a couple before I found the right one, but it worked out well. I have to pay for it myself, but worth every penny!

As far as other pain, I don't have any real good advice. We all do what we have to do to get through the day.
Best of luck, and thanks for your service!
