Yup, the abused person gets away from the abuser or arranges to put the abuser in the abused position. Most abusers are bullies and couldn't handle being the victim for a change....However, to play around with this is dangerous, the answer is to get away and prevent the abuser from following.

Scientifically, it depends on their physiological response during abuse. If someone's whole being gets into abuse, as in they're angry, red faced, anxious, emotional, etc - then yes, they can be rehabilitated. If they want to be. That person would need some serious therapy, but it can be stopped, if they want to stop.
If someone is cold and emotionless while beating someone up, then no, they cannot be helped. Run, do not come back, there is no rehabilitation for them.

My experience is that an abuser will always be an abuser unless he goes through some shock like going to jail and getting into serious trouble for abuse.

Its their nature to abuse and without a shock that really hurts them, they will always feel the need to abuse and control.

It can stop if the abuser seeks help. No one but the abuser. If the abuser doesn't want to stop the abuser will never stop short of being shot.

The person being abused has to somehow find the strentgh to get out of the abusive relationhip.

IF there is abuse, you have to stop it by leaving and having nothing to do with the abuser. I know that is tough, but in the long run you will be much better off

Yes, it can..
The abuser is obviously a sick person..
It is often not in the abused persons best interest
to hang around and try to "save" the abuser from himself..
It is usually best to just divorce / get away from the abuser.
Get a restraining order...Put him in jail...
