Implanon can have very varied effects on the menstrual cycle. Some women have no periods at all, others have irregular bleeding, some have very heavy bleeding. Problems with periods are one of the main reasons that women discontinue its use.

I have read some info that suggests too much bleeding can be treated by also taking the pill on top (http://www.gpnotebook.co.uk/cache/1792016463.htm) but taking hormones on top of hormones seems a bit much to me....

I haven't had the implant but I was on the depo injection. I bled for over year while docs told me to stick with it and suggested taking the pill as well to try and regulate my body. I had enough and decided to come off it, the docs said that certain contraceptives just don't agree with some people and the hormones are all over the place.

I will add that a month after coming off the injection I fell pregnant, but lost the baby at 14 weeks (although it apparently had died around 6 weeks but I had not miscarried normally at that time). The doctors said that although they could not tell me what caused my miscarriage they said that it was highly likely that the fact my hormones were all over the place from the depo injection as it didn't agree with me, meant that I was not able to carry the baby.
From my experience I would change your form of contraception to one that suits you as when they mess around with your homones they can have tragic results afterwards.

I had a period for a whole year without stopping, very heavy and painful, finally had a D and C and Mirema coil, no periods, no pain and all sorted. Go see your GP, maybe you need different implant or it is taking time to settle down.

I'm on that. and my doctor says if i bleed for more than 2 weeks to go back and get it changed. don't know how long you have been on it, but maybe you are getting immune to it, if so it wont work, so be careful. go see your doctor as soon as poss, i would it's not worth the risk.
