Weeds?
People have used the least expensive white vinegar to get rid of unwanted roots, pouring it on the ground above the rooyts. It has to be repeated frequently at first, but then less and less. It works so well that it should not be applied to roots of plants to be kept. Vinegar is non-toxic.
Success with your tasks.

For an effective weed killer that is non-toxic for dogs, use 1 gallon of white vinegar and add 1 cup of table salt and 8 drops of liquid dish detergent. Mix and spray on the weeds. It will kill anything it's sprayed on.

depends.
A cultivated garden ? Pull out the weeds and/or hoe them out
A wild spot ? Rotivate it or dig it up and rake it or keep mowing it.

BURN EM UP!! There is a product sold that attaches to a propane tank (try Lowes) that makes it easy to burn them to death. This is also good in the winter to melt ice.

Pull them out with your hands or boil some water and pour it over them, I assure you they will die because you cook them.
