I think removal of the center line is good, but officiating is poor.

Yes.

They suck, particularly in women's hockey, where it's a stick game and all the new anti-stick rules mean you can't do anything without getting a call.

In both my leagues, men's and women's, the refs started off calling everything, and as the season's worn on have backed off somewhat.

That's helped, but the new rules still stupid, and springing them on us like that was *lame*.

Someone should make a distinction here -- are we talking about the "new" NHL rules, which are a couple of years old now, or are we talking about the brand new USA Hockey rules?

I'm talking about the new USA Hockey rules, which are here:

Which are we talking about?

I think they should get rid of ALL the blue lines to tell you the truth. They should call the entire game from Off the ice because the referees get in the way half the time as well. They make at least 5 bad calls per game AND they decide the outcome of every game. They favor veterans over rookies. A player knows all he has to do is dive to get a penalty. And if he doesn't, he won't get the call...

yes. Removing the red line in my mind was needed to open the game up and get more exciting plays like breakways etc. the trapizoid behind the net is one that i kinda dissagree with. If they are trying to protect the goalies, the goalie should learn when he can get to the puck withought getting rocked. Cap was good, maybe a little low but very good and it was a definite limit unlike baseball and others where you just pay luxury taxs etc when over cap.

The new rules are great for the game, even if they mean more penalties. As long as refs don't go overboard with them in the playoffs.....................
