Today there was two minutes silence to remember those who diedin various wars. WWII was a fight against the evils of fascism and nazism. It was understood then that we needed to stand up for tolerance and freedom from oppression. So why can't people now see what the British National Party is really all about? They are neo-fascists! They believe in racial segregation and in maintaining the purity of the 'White British' race. Follow the sinister link below. Much of the science is fairly accurate, but ask yourself why such an article is so prominent on the website of a modern political party.

LadyMoon -sadly, I can see why people might be turning to the BNP. The point of my question was to highlight what their underlying philosophy is in reality (once you get past all the immigration hype and the pandering to people's xenophobia).

I realise now that the title of my question misled those people who weren't prepared to read the whole question.

GREAT QUESTION!

The answer: because just as the Germans became prejudiced against the Jews through ignorance, lack of education and misinformation, so people today are prejudiced against non-white people in general, and Muslims in particular.

We need to educate people as to what the BNP really stands for, the links its members have with neo-Nazi organisations such as Combat 18, and also that most Muslims just want to live in peace and contribute to our society.

As a member of the Party that supposedly governs this country I feel ashamed that we have been so spectacularly unsuccessful in doing this.

A close friend of mine who fought in World War II from Dunkirk to D-Day, and was present when Bergen-Belsen concentration camp was liberated in 1945, cried the day my City elected its first BNP councillor, and died three weeks later a broken man.

I'm tired of people trying to educate me with links written by someone else. This is something lemmings do. Actually, you sound like someone who confuses profiling with segregation.

You asked why people fought and died in WWII. If you look at some of the major players of WWII: Italy, Japan, Germany, Russia, USA, Great Britain. Do you see the same pattern amongst the first four that I do? Try DICTATORSHIPS! The whole axis was controlled by three powers, basically run by three people. Russia too, fell under that catergory.

If this doesn't spell out the dangers of dictatorships and whether we learn from history, nothing will! Do these sound familiar, Ahmadinejad. Kim Jong Il., Hugo Chavez, Putin, al Assad! Granted, they don't all fall under the dictatorship category, just yet, however some are pointed in that direction, and all enjoy the supreme power of a dictator. If not supreme, manipulative!

Of coarse, the liberals in the US, would have us employ diplomacy in dealing with group. Hell, they may even bring back Madeline Albright!

You are right: WWII was fought to end right-wing totalitarianism. But left-wing totalitarianism was not crushed. It took the death of Stalin and the liberalization of the Soviet Union -- and a lot of economic pressure to keep up an unwinnable arms race with the West -- to kill most of left-wing totalitarianism. It still survives in North Korea and a few other places, of course, and needs to be ousted...

But the British National Party and other neo-Nazi parties are much more about racism than establishing totalitarian regimes.

In free societies, such as Britain's and the US's, we encourage freedom of thought and freedom of belief. That means we don't disallow hateful cretins from having a political say in things -- the implied hope being that they will never appeal to the majority.

So we may make war against extremism, but we don't make it illegal!

And this posting is in no way meant to support fascism, racism, or the policies of the incumbent President of the US

Our ancesters fought for our freedom and prosperity. Being ex army myself i can relate to some of this. A lot of what you say in your paragraph is true, and i see your point. But................................ I wonder what our ancestors would have thought about the state of our country today. Im sure they would have been outraged by the mass surge of immigration from eastern europe and some other parts of the world . Dont get me wrong im not a racist by any means, but i can understand why people do get annoyed and fustrated at the way our country is being exploited . I think its important to see the bigger picture and both sides of the arguement . To many people are now caught up in this P.C culture. People are now to scared to say anything through fear of being accused of rasicm. Not to say that all foriegn people are bad, because quite clearly they are not . Dont worry yourself about the B.N.P because they will never become a force to be reckoned with, coz i dont believe the powers that be will allow it. They are badly run and not well organised , they latch on to peoples fears ie. immigration.
Which lets be honest, has got worse since labour has come to power. So some would say that the Labour government in this instance gives powers to "right wing" parties.
I enjoyed reading your paragragh and i value your opinion. You put your point across in an intelligent and thought provoking way . Well done

There were three groups of societies involved in the European end of WW2. All three suffered tremendous civilian losses. And the deaths, imprisonments, psychological trips and injuries of the soldiers was equally tragic.
For me, the best answer to your question must be this one, as only MY answer attempts to say why all three sides, the Allies, the Soviet Block, and the Hitler Group of armies were fighting for:
a better future for their own people, for their own families, for themselves, at any cost.
It was clear to all sides that the future balance of power of the world's economies for up for grabs. And each country wanted to secure the best future per capita income for itself.
We in the US & UK can only be thankful that things turned out the way they did. Otherwise (if all the big players had sided with Hitler in a coalition that lasted) there would be even less freedom & tolerance in the world now, even more of a colonialist past to be ashamed of, and the number of countries in the world could be as low as 10 (leaving most nationalities without a homeland where they make the rules and possibly without access to rich and powerful jobs).

People fought for freedom. the freedom to belive what they want, wear waht they want, act how they like (within law) - basically the fundamental freedoms of a civillized country. The freedom to have a home, a family, to work hard and enjoy life and be safe in our own country.

The same freedoms Muslim terrorists took away from over 50 people on 7/7/05 and that these ranting mullahs want to take away from us when they talk about making the UK into a "Muslim State".

A country where women can he beheaded for not wearing a veil? No thanks. My dad (WWII veteran) didn't fight for that. He'd have been horrfiied to see what is going on today in the country he fought for.

If you can't see why people are turning to the BNP (poverty, homelessness, crime, unemployment, terrorism) then you're very blind.

Because, soon, sooner than you actually think...It's gonna be EVERY man for himself, as soon as we crown a self-righteous woman as the PRESIDENT of the UNITED STATES of AMERICA, according to a book called "REVELATIONS" You see, in this self-righteous U.S. monster eating capitolistic country that we live in , The majority of people in this whole planet, only would like the opportunity to have 24hr intercourse with a material, virtual, moneyhungeryhippo named "O" therwise, because went you have a great big "HEY" of cash in your refrigerated, frezzer, then your "MINDandSOUL" becomes disensitized and greedy and gluttoneous and slothful and lustful and very (secretively)wrathful, and let's not forget PrideandEnvy.
{listen} StJohn, the divine, was suppose to be humanities' last and only hope from keeping a "MANandWOMAN" from "devouring" themselves and eachother. History, to an inspired mind, aways has been recorded,as, repeating it'self over, over and again, for a more dangerous battle, for the need maintain life, in a darkage... for "now" sake. Stjohn the divine, was just another visionary amongest the greatest visionaries "of all time."

You need to restate your question. Refering to WW2 is just that , backing up on why you think there is racism by the "white British".Racism has existed for ever in the lifetime of man, If there was no racism there would be no need for wars. I think that is why God put us on earth. Some people will figure it out and say to themselves" I am just part of the human race". Others will continue their hate and envy.

You have got to be having a laugh........ how can post this question today of all days?

There are still a lot of people alive today that were directly involved or effected by WW11 - it is not your place to question history but to reflect and learn!!!!

We have to stop and thank every single person who put their lives on the line for OUR freedom today - around the world!

The British National Party is like many extremist groups - we have many worldwide cults and religions which think their way is the best way.

The point of fighting many years ago was to protect OUR RIGHT to choose and to not force your ideas or views on others.

Long live peace and tolerance of others!

I`m sorry but i would rather not look at your link as i can well imagine what it is about I agree with everything you say . The hundreds of thousands of brave men and boys, who died to keep us free from oppression ,would turn over in their graves if they knew the way things are heading, and how little, people have learned from the past.
