Sometimes they work at night.
It's not always obvious.
As long as the sign is there, without a time qualifier (eg "8AM to 5 PM), you can get a ticket for not driving the reduced speed.

In Pennsylvania the signs will say, construction zone is active when light on sign is flashing. Depends on your state. Sometimes the cops will set up a speed trap in a construction zone during a holiday when no one is working there. If there is no sign to say if it is active or not, don't take the risk, slow down.

You always have to slow down, no matter what time of day or night it is. You never know if someone is out working because some construction sites are worked on around the clock.

Yes Always be cautious at construction zones. I know a girl that accidently killed a construction worker. She was miserable for years. The guilt was horrible, she hated herself. Slowing down a bit is better than living with an avoidable tragedy.

Where I live, they have flashers, so if the flashers are blinking, follow the speed limit, if they aren't then go the normal speed limit. I thought that would be everywhere. I got one for you though....What about the safety of us drivers, I was going thru a construction zone the other day & the wind was very strong! I was driving by & the wind took the hard hat right off of this guys head & it hit my truck!! No damage was done, thank God! But I just thought that was a funny story! O.K....Bye!

Yes. If they have not covered the sign you must. They may have left some ditches or holes close to the road creating a danger if you aren't careful. Another common problem is when repavers put down the bottom layer of paving and have the edges of the manholes sticking up a few inches. Hit one of those protrusions in a hurry and you can break the sidewall on your tires.

I'm sure if there's signs posted you would. I wouldn't want to take the chance and get a ticket I think they're doubled in construction zones.

It depends on which State you live in as each is different. Michigan law as of a few years ago was that you didn't have to slow down if no workers were present.
