A devout feminist's point of view:
The porn industry used to be all about using and degrading women through either image or action to gratify a male sexual fanasy or desire. Women were portayed as purely sexual objects, 'obeying' and being dominated by the male lead with little or no dignity for her self. A women didn't have an identity other than 'play thing' or 'wh@re'. This did endanger and degrade women and empower men.
These days things are improving, and although it is still a male dominated market, woman are now standing up and saying "hey, I actually quite like watching sex as well, what do I get out of it". After all, women are sexual beings too, and we also have fantasy and desire, and we can express out sexual needs just as men do.
Women are now seen more in dominant roles, they aren't all tossed aroung like rag dolls every which way, doing whatever the male lead wants, regardless of comfort and dignity. It's now more 'equal' with regard who plays the submissive/dominant roles. Women express there pleasure and confidence sexually where as earlier porn images women were just play things for the men.
So, as long as women are comfortable and not just playing to the male ego, letting men use them as toys for thier own entertainment, without the flip side of being the sexually superiour, then I do not see how it can endanger women or set us back in any way.

This dark side of people is very difficult to explain and/or discuss for many women I know. Most women in the porn industry have an abusive background somewhere in their childhood/teen years. Many times alcohol & drugs have been an issue. There are not very many women that agree with pornography. The way I feel it is demeaning is that the women who work in porn do not do so for the " fun of it " Most make a bad decision to get to that point and they do it for the $$ of course but it's where those $$ take them. We do know that drugs & alcohol are used during the " work time" and addiction occurs. To make this short-it is a bad road that leads to many bad places for women. I don't believe this represents all women by any means but it does give a false sense of what some Men may think a woman should be or how they should act.

I don't think that the issue is the actual woman in the porns/dancing. I think that it's more of the image that they are portraying.
In porns, the people watching are the ones that are more affected by their performances.
It's showing men (and in a different way, women too) that it's ok to get 'plowed by horsemen' (I enjoyed your choice of words), to be squirted in the eye by ejaculate and that their pain and comfort is irrelevant to the process...
While there are women that enjoy rough sex and aggressive men, the porn industry is very one-sided at showing all that sex can be, and I think that that is where the danger is.
People watch them and get this one very extreme view of sex and go back into their little worlds feeling as though that's the way.
As far as the dancers... I don't think that the actual act of it is that horrible, but the treatment of the strippers is.
A lot of men feel that because they are performing for them and getting money, that it's ok to verbally abuse, fondle, and disrespect these women.
Funny, I don't think they would treat their waiters, barbers, or doctors (all of whom are providing a service and being paid for it) the same way.
I guess there is a stigma attached to dancers, that they are hoes and worthless, etc and so men treat them that way. So in that sense it is demeaning.

As far as exotic dancing goes, quite frankly some women really enjoy their work. Others do it to pay the bills. I don't know a thing about porn stars, but I would guess that later in life that may tend to be an issue you would want to deal with so you could respect yourself.

You don't need the "ladies" to answer this, just go to your nearest topless bar and L O O K at the MALE CUSTOMERS. Watch their expressions and actions - especially as they drink more and more. By the end of the night - WHO is more disgusting - the "strippers" or the "drunken customers"? As long as a certain sector of society wants this type of entertainment, as long as the bar owners make money, it will continue, regardless what anyone thinks or says. Thank God, this is only a small percentage of society. But I am told the MONEY is terrific for the women, but for me, there would never be enough money to display my naked body (as perfect as it is) - to any man, other then the one I love. (ps and my doctor) LOL

We all make choices. I do not see it as demeaning to women because those women made a decision for whatever reason to do what they do. It does not demean me as a woman at all. All of us have a role in life and some choices are made because we see nothing more promising to do in life. Who am I to judge. I respect those women. I respect them because who stronger then them can put up with men who do demean them and who (some of these women) despite all life's trauma are doing what they do to put themselves through school, feed their kids or just plain stay out of a worse life. Who are they hurting? I hope they are not choosing to hurt themselves!

its all about choice. if someone wants to be a stripper then thats her descision. same for porn stars. if there is a market for it and women who want to do it, who are we, as a society, to tell anyone they can't do something that isn't illegal? the only ones who seem to be offended are femi-nazis. its called choice. and by the way, some of these gals make a ton of money.

As long as they are not forced into it by a crime syndicate to pay for their trip to the USA. If it is done entirely of freewill, no problems.
