I am not American and I've always heard that the Republicans were racist and from the South. Is this true? Were these parties formed after the civil war between the North and South? Which of these parties do you think is seeking the best for the American people?

No, Republicans are not racist, and no, they aren't always from the South.
Both want what's best for America, but both have different visions of how to bring this about.
The Republicans and Democrats became separate parties prior to the Civil War.
It was a Republican that illegalized slavery.

Bah ha, ha ha. Thats a good one. Lincoln was a Republican, and Democrats set up segregation and voting requirements that prevented blacks from voting.

But both of those happened long ago. Now frankly there isn't much difference. Democrats think the money you earn by your own honest toil belongs to them to be redistributed among their supporters. Republicans are busy bodies and want to run the rest of your life. Between the two of them you aren't allowed to do anything.

Neither of them are for whats best for the American people. Go to Libertarian.org and take the political quiz. See where you're political beliefs fall.

Up until the 60's democrats controled the segregated south. It was the " Solid South'.Al Gore's father, also a Senator, was a leader in the fight against civil rights.Republicans who were mostly from the North.were crucial in ending segregation.Of course President Johnson a Dem started the Great Society, but he lost a lot of support in his own party.

One party (Republicans) is for a free-market, capitalist economy, with very little commercial regulations from the government. Where businesses can do what they want (rape the enviroment, pay people $2 an hour, etc.) as long as they make a profit, because business drives the economy. And the Democrats try to keep regular people from being screwed by big business.
