....you were permitted to chat with your friends, laugh when you felt like it, use your cell phone, and there were flashing lights to tell you when to applaud?

Mind you, this is not necessarily what my choice would be. I'm just kind of testing the waters here.

what would be the point of going if you aren't listening. If someone wants to chat, laugh, use a cell phone, and have to be told when to applaud, what's the point? If that's what you want turn on a radio, play a CD, go to a bar with canned background music. Musicians I know would say getouttahere to that behavior. Musicians are professional artists and deserve to be treated as such. Dress clothes show respect for the art form. We tend to be more casual people now, but dress clothes are still appropriate in many situations.

dream on... symphony concerts are a little too expensive to get ruined by people who don't pay attention to the only thing that matters at those concerts: the music itself (and not the artists and the musicians).

symphony concert is a formal affair ...and one has to be in his/her best appearance, casual attire for the day is appropriate but when one had attend special occasion such us musical concert's it's unusual to be wearing casual clothes when one is to perform....owe it to the audince who pay the ticket.and for the audince they should not be allowed to chat, laugh and use cell phone during the concert it's irritating for others who are taking the occasion seriously.

It would be so unlikely as to be nonexistant.

You wouldn't be able to hear with all that going on.
